[PETERBOROUGH] MP Dean Del Mastro presented funding to the first round of successful applicants of the Tri-Association Manufacturing Training Initiative in the Peterborough region at a media conference held at the Greater Peterborough Area Economic Development Corporation (GPA EDC) today.The successful applicants include:

The Tri-Association Manufacturers Initiative is a public/private sector partnership that provides 50% funding to manufacturing employers that have undertaken third-party employee training and/or a $1,000 rebate to those manufacturing employers that have hired youth interns/displaced workers.Quotes:“Canada’s Economic Action Plan is providing long-term financial stability through investments like the Tri-Association Manufacturers Initiative to areas like ours that need it most,” stated Dean Del Mastro, Member of Parliament for Peterborough. “Today, I am pleased to be providing much needed funding on behalf of the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario) to enhance the manufacturing sector in our region and encourage economic revitalization that will benefit the residents of our community.”“The number of applicants to this round of funding supports the need for such programs in our region,” stated Tom Sayer, Interim President & CEO of the GPA EDC and Chair of the Kawartha Manufacturers’ Association. “We’re happy to administer a program that helps to train existing workers in the manufacturing industry and to hire youth interns and displaced workers. Programs such as this help to retain local manufacturing jobs and keeps businesses in the Greater Peterborough Area.”“Through the Tri-Association Manufacturing Training Initiative we have been able to train our employees on 13 different manufacturing related topics,” said Terry McCullough of Savage Arms Canada. “This is the second funding opportunity that we have utilized through the GPA EDC. These programs allow us to advance the knowledge-base of our employees in order to make better products and create higher-quality jobs.”The Greater Peterborough Area Economic Development Corporation (GPA EDC) was the lead applicant and administrator for the project that brought together not-for-profit and municipal economic development organizations representing the Quinte, Greater Peterborough, Northumberland and City of Kawartha Lakes regions. They partnered for the first time to deliver this Initiative that helps leverage private sector investments and supports the manufacturing members of the Kawartha, Quinte and Northumberland Manufacturers’ Associations.
