The City of Peterborough is proud to be featured as a model green community in the August 2011 edition of Business Review Canada and Energy Digital magazines.
Peterborough was selected as one of six communities across Canada that exemplifies the values of living with and within our environment.
“I am delighted that the City of Peterborough has been chosen as a nationally significant Green Community, featured in two Canada-wide magazines. This truly is an honour,” said Mayor Daryl Bennett. “This recognition represents a wonderful acknowledgement of the spirit of generations of people in helping to create a prosperous and sustainable community.”
The City of Peterborough was featured as a key corporate case study, providing an in-depth profile of our city, with a focus on recent projects, investments and developments in building a more sustainable green community. The article details a range of projects including the development of a Sustainability Plan for the Greater Peterborough Area, the significance of Peterborough Utilities construction of the 10 megawatt Lily Lake Solar Farm combined with the operation of three hydro electric generating stations, as well as the importance of grass root policies and neighbourhood community gardens.
“This is an excellent opportunity to showcase Peterborough”, said Community Services Director Ken Doherty. “Peterborough has historically been a leader in sustainable practices. It is simply engrained within our culture. I encourage everyone to join with us in building our sustainable future.”
