GPA EDC BRINGS AEROSPACE AND AVIATION COMPANIES TOGETHER TO DEVELOP BUSINESS AND JOB CREATION OPPORTUNITIES

[PETERBOROUGH] The Petebrorough region has been preparing for growth in the Aerospace and Aviation sectors for over a year. The Grand Re-opening of the Peterborough Municipal Airport in October 2011 marked the beginning of the next steps in developing this industry which will help redefine the economy in the Peterborough region.

The Greater Peterborough Area Economic Development Corporation (GPA EDC) invited businesses involved or with an interest in the local Aerospace and Aviation industries to an investment attraction meeting today. This gathering provided information and knowledge to assist the GPA EDC in facilitating future growth and job creation in this sector through the creation of coordinated messaging and industry driven development.

Speakers included:

Ted Lennox:   President, LPS Avia Consulting Group

Rod Jones:     President, Ontario Aerospace Council

Kate Gillespie-Ahrens:   Director of Business Development, Flying Colours Corp.

Topics discussed included the current state of the global and local industry; local successes & opportunities and how to build on them; steps to be taken to create a local marketing plan; and how to grow large scale Aerospace and Aerospace industries in Peterborough for new investment attraction and job creation.

The mission of the GPA EDC is to assist the City and County of Peterborough with the development of an environment that facilitates the creation of wealth and expanded employment in a manner that increases our citizens’ standard of living and improves quality of life.
