Have you ever wanted to visit a working dairy farm, but didn’t know anyone who owned one. Well here is your opportunity. This group is made up of Dairy farmers who work with Holstein dairy cattle (the black & white ones) throughout Peterborough County. Once a year they chose one producer to open their doors to the public. On this day you are able to enjoy a fabulous BBQ, beef, baked potatoes and homemade salads (the group makes many different types of salads). I also believe ice cream, milk & coffee/tea are also on the menu.

Picture this… the parking lot, is a recently cut hay field, the lobby, is a registration table at the edge of the field where you will be greeted by a charming member or two of the Holstein club. They will give you your tickets (make sure you pre-order them as this is a very popular event) and direct you to the buffet. You will be greeted again by the owners of the farm. Just look at them as you wait in line, you will recognize them by the big smiles and the pride that is exuding all through them.
Now that you have selected all you want from the buffet your dining table for the evening is rows upon rows of 2×4’s sitting on top of hay bales. It is set up in a theater like setting as there is a stage and entertainment and awards to be given out to the young farmers in the crowd.
You will get to take a tour of the barn see the cows and calves up close and personal. There are also games you can play. Try your hand at judging the cattle show. Can you pick the winning bovine? This is a great family evening, something you will all remember and want to make this an annual event.
