Ontario is celebrating youth entrepreneurship and skills development at the annual regional and provincial Secondary School Business Plan Competition Awards Ceremonies held today in each of four provincial regions.

Secondary school students from northern, eastern, western and southern Ontario competed in their respective region for the esteemed awards.  The students, who individually or as a team prepared and submitted viable business plans, first participated in local competitions hosted by  Small Business Enterprise Centres across the province.  The regional winners then competed for the top honour of Provincial Champion.

Across the province, a total of 1,170 plans were submitted. Tonight’s Eastern Region, Peterborough ceremony, held at The Great Hall of Champlain College, honoured the following students:

- Vanessa Viau, Dominic Seguin and Daniel Thibault (region winner and provincial champion)

- Ryan Peterson and Cord McGee (regional first runner up)

- Lidia Song, Emily Lindsay and Christine Craig (regional second runner up)

The winners receive prizes ranging from $500 for the second runner-up in each region to $1500 for the Provincial Champion.  The prizes are intended to help the students pursue their career and business goals.
