[PETERBOROUGH] The Greater Peterborough Area Economic Development Corporation (GPA EDC) released their 2010-2014 Strategic Plan to the public today. The plan, which has been presented to Councils of the City and County of Peterborough, will be a roadmap for economic development in the region for the next five years. The plan is the product of 18 months of work by the GPA EDC Board of Directors that includes extensive consultation with the residents and business people of the Peterborough region.
The plan states that the GPA EDC will continue to pursue its corporate mission of creating wealth and jobs in line with the GPA 2020: A Vision for Our Future. In doing so it will concentrate on activities which both increase the standard of living and improve the quality of life of our residents.
In adopting the plan, the Board of Directors has established a number of guiding principals including sustainability, inclusiveness, innovativeness and differentiation. Measures contained in the plan have been designed to adhere to the vision, mission, values and economic environment in the Greater Peterborough Area. The GPA EDC will organize its efforts around four key business lines; agriculture & rural development, manufacturing & small business, tourism and innovation. The corporate structure has been reorganized to better align with this new strategic direction and to provide a framework conducive to success in the current business environment.
The board has also introduced both strategic and tactical measurement processes. Progress in meeting the plans strategic goals and objectives will be reported annually to both city and county council.
"I believe that we have developed a plan that outlines a strategy that will allow the region to embrace new economic opportunities as they emerge,” stated David Fell, Chair of the GPA EDC Board of Directors. “I would like to thank the citizens and business people in the region who provided input towards the development of the plan as well as fellow board member, Cora Whittington who spent countless hours on the development of the plan as the board appointed Chair of the Strategic Plan Committee. As we move forward with the implementation of the objectives outlined in the 2010-2014 strategic plan, we welcome continued feedback from the community.”
